William (Bill) S. Chalmers has been with the firm since his call to the Bar in 1987 and has been a partner since 1990, and is the firm's managing partner.
Bill practises civil litigation with an emphasis on insurance matters. He has a particular interest in advising insurers on coverage issues and defending insurers against arson and fraud claims. He has appeared before all levels of courts in Ontario and various administrative tribunals.
Bill frequently writes articles and speaks at seminars on a variety of legal topics, including insurance coverage issues. He is the author of several articles, as well as Small Claims and Simplified Procedure Litigation, 4th ed., published by Butterworth’s Canada.
Bill has an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School, where he won several awards for academic excellence, and a B.A. from the University of Toronto. He has also completed the Canadian Dispute Resolution Corporation’s Commercial Mediation training.
Bill is married and has two sons. He is active in the community and has been a Cub leader, basketball, baseball and hockey coach. Although Bill has had many successes in his professional life, he reports that his greatest achievement is coaching his son’s hockey team to the championship game, four years in a row.
