Jamie K. Trimble articled with the firm and has practiced with the firm since his call to the Bar in 1989. He was made a partner in 1996.
Jamie practices civil litigation out of both our Toronto and Hamilton offices. He enjoys a broad practice with a focus on tort and insurance litigation. Jamie is a certified Risk Manager and offers his expertise in legal risk management.
Both insurers and insureds retain Jamie to act for them in coverage disputes involving property and liability policies and to prosecute and defend property, product liability and personal injury cases. He frequently acts in defence of professionals accused of professional negligence.
Jamie's extra curricular activities have focused on practice excellence and education. He been active in the Ontario Bar Association (a voluntary association representing over half of the practicing bar in Ontario), serving as its Past-President in 2009-2010, its President in 2008-2009, its Vice-President in 2007-08, a member of the Civil Litigation Section executive from 1991 to 2006 (Chair of the section from 1996 to 1998), its Chair of Professional Development for 2005 to 2007. Jamie was the OBA’s representative on the Toronto Case Management Steering Committee for 10 years, and has been its appointed representative on numerous other Bench and Bar Committees.
Jamie regularly speaks and delivers papers at the Ontario Bar Association, the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian Institute and Insight. He also presents client, industry and community seminars on litigation, insurance issues and ethical matters. As well, he has taught Professional Responsibility and Ethics, and Practice & Risk Management at the Bar Admission Course and has guest lectured at Ryerson Polytechnic University on insurance in business.
Jamie has been the firm's representative on The Arc Group Canada, an affiliation of independent law firms from across Canada, serving the insurance and risk management communities. He has served on Arc's Board of Directors since Arc's inception in 2006, and is its current President.
Jamie is a member of the Ontario Bar Association, Canadian Bar Association, The Advocate's Society, Toronto Lawyer's Association, Hamilton Law Association, The Osgoode Society, The Hamilton Medical-Legal Society, The Toronto Medical-Legal Society and the Canadian Defence Lawyer's Association (The Canadian Chapter of the Defence Research Institute).
Jamie was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario. He received a B.A in 1983 and an M.A. in 1984, both in history, from McMaster University. He earned his LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1987.
In 2003, Jamie had the dual distinction of being certified as a Specialist in Civil Litigation by the Law Society of Upper Canada and receiving the designation of Canadian Risk Manager from the Global Risk Management Institute. He is the only lawyer in our firm to hold the CRM designation.
